What good is any vacation without some pictures with the parents?
This is one of the dresses I made even though you can barely see it. I used a 60's pattern, which I don't normally sew with. I also made it out of actual vintage eyelet fabric from the 40's/ 50's I think.
I think this is my very favorite dress I have made so far. I got the vintage fabric from RetroactiveVintage. And, this was my first time attempting to wear a snood that I bought from ArtheliasAttic. I absolutely love the quality of it and I will definitely be purchasing a few more soon. This was also my first real attempt at trying some victory rolls. Any tips on how to get them smoother, smaller, whatnot? I was pretty happy with how they turned out, being my first time and all, but my mother was less than enthused about the look. But I really like the whole ensemble for once in my life haha.
And this is the guy that had just come off a boat (the restaurant was on a dock) a little way beyond tipsy and was totally trying to mack on me while my mother was trying to take my picture. Why couldn't he have been just, oh about, 30 years younger and hot haha. Oh well, it never happens to me.

It had a Great View
The place we were at was actually on the beach. We've never stayed at a place that was literally surrounded by sand. Maybe had a view of the sand across the street, but never actually at the sand line. That was kind of awesome. You might think that even though I hate the beach, I hate the ocean too, but that is totally not true. In fact, I don't hate the beach either, when I'm not actually on it. I love looking at Nature from a distance and taking in all of God's beautiful art that He created.

Group Photo Time
I am a big fan of group photos. I don't care where we are, or that we look like tourists. I love the memories.
Sillly Carrie forgot to open her eyes.We only ate out a few times, which was weird, because when its just me, mom and dad, we eat out all the time on vacation and get fresh fish the rest of the time. But the times we did eat out as a group it was super fun. I love love love family vacations. So much more fun than when it's just my family.

And...I'm back/At the Beach
Wow. I think it has been almost a month since I have been online, except to check random emails and whatnots. Thats the longest I've ever gone, and weirdly, as addicted as I am to the computer, I didn't really miss it.
This past week, I was on Captiva Island, Florida for a small family vacation (it was my family, my Uncle from Michigan's family, and most of my Aunt's family from Georgia). But, instead of doing one big photodump like I normally do (aka my laziness shining through), I am going to split it up into a few different posts over this next week since it's been forever since I've updated my blog :O
We'll start off At the Beach, because even though our house was on the beach, and it was gorgeous, I just am not a beach person. At all. First off, I am very very sensitive to the sun, especially down in Florida, and even with 50 sunscreen on, I still have been known to get sunpoisoning from time to time. So, I stay out of the sun as much as I can, not to mention the fact that I hate the way the sand feels. I have definite texture problems with it, and I can easily I say I was never a dirty or messy child at all.
On our second day there, we had a sand castle building contest. Well, being the Sci-Fi loving family that we are, any old sand castle just wouldn't do. So, instead, we decided to build the Tardis from Doctor Who. None of the other family's knew what it was though, those losers.
My Uncle's family was the only one to build an actual sand castle.
My cousin Cody, and his wife and darling daughter built a Mickey Mouse.
And my Aunt Brenda, the artist of the family, built this masterpiece of a sand sculpture of an alligator.
(that is my artistic aunt. For some reason I didn't have any individual pics of her with her masterpiece)
We lost.
At one point in the day, my hair did look semi cute with my vintage swimsuit. I found it at a flea market a few months ago for only $10!
I tried something new with my hair. Like this:
Can you tell they're all related, haha

Midland, MI aka vacation
Every year for about the past 4 years, we have been going to Midland, Michigan to stay with my Uncle. Usually it is just us and my uncle's family, but this year my Georgia Aunt and her family came. Yay! It makes things so much more fun with more family, don't you agree? We had a blast basically doing nothing. We stayed on my uncle's property almost the entire week, except to see a baseball game. And you know what, I never got bored. He has such a beautiful property with a gorgeous humongo pond, lovely pool, lovely big screen tvs...it goes on and on. I hope we are able to do this every year! Enjoy the pretty pictures
I finally reshaped that poor misshapen hat, but I had a hard time keeping it on, even with a hat pin in.
My Uncle and his new wife. She is going to have a baby soon. Yay! More cousins:D
This golf game was actually really fun, even though I totally sucked at it
My cousin is insane. I love him for it:D
This is probably my fav picture by far. It is so crafty and surprisingly my mother took it.
I always eat so dang much on vacation, its like eating 6 big meals a day.
My aunt's husband. They got married last October and he is definitely a welcome change to our family. So sweet and hilarious:D
Everyone played tug-of-war and then had a water balloon fight right after. My poor cousin totally got beat up. His poor back was a mess.
My aunt definitely livens things up. I love it, because otherwise this vacation would have been totally boring and mellow.
The only picture I got of my aunt, mom, and me, and dang it, she moved her dang head.
Yep, Dexter made it to vacation and he has never been so barky. I was about ready to shoot him on multiple occasions....not literally
I wanted to fish so bad, but my idea of fishing is this: Someone (not me) puts the worm on the hook, someone casts the line (me) and catches the fish, and someone takes the fish off the hook and puts it back in the water(also, not me). Yeah, I didn't think that would go over very well and would probably would be made to do everything by myself. So, yeah, no fishing for me.
My uncle, whose house we were at, and the freaking humongoid fish he caught. Don't ask me what it was, I'd probably be lying to him.
What I did for about 50% of the vacation: read. I love to read and I bring a book with me almost everywhere I go. So far I have read 3 books, all YA: Raised By Wolves, Betrayals, and The Reckoning. My favorite was Raised By Wolves, which is a must if you are a fan of Urban Fantasy. It is one of the best werewolf novels I have read besides the Mercy Thompson series.
Awww. Aren't they cute:D
Cousins cousins. Love 'em.
We went to a baseball game. If you know me, you know I am about as nonsports oriented as you can get. I hate golf, don't understand football, think baseball is about as boring as you can get, and don't understand the fascination with soccer. The only sport I do like is tennis, but that is because I played it in high school, and I respect the people that play it.
Okay, really bad picture. I totally look like I am in pain, my dad looks ridiculous, but my mom looks pretty.
This was my entertainment during the game. Is not that fabulous costume? He was hilarious.
My aunt's family last night, we had a bonfire after the game and partied....and in the morning, I regretted it. bleh
My mom and her brother and sister. Don't they all look alike? I think they do.
Our first family picture in like 10 years, even though half of our family isn't there, the thought still is.
And that's it. Here's the link if you want to see the rest of them.
We leave on Saturday and then I have to get sewing. My friend's wedding is on the following Saturday and we are leaving on Thursday to go up early and help. So, my new dress I want to get done better be sewn when I am doing some serious speed.
